While New Yorkers are dying of heat, I must say that us Californians are enjoying some wonderful (and in some areas cooler than normal) weather. One of my dear friends made a pit stop in New York for a week before heading out of the country, and she was kind enough to send me some beautiful pictures of her sweaty vacation. And if you are curious about the title of this post, zoom in on the sign in the last picture.
I’ve been struggling to get back to real life after my too-short holiday weekend, but I figure it’s now or never if I want to compile a Memorial weekend photo diary. My boyfriend and I decided to spend the weekend in Las Vegas, but the 1 hour plane ride that we are so familiar with, turned into a 9 hour car ride (thanks holiday traffic) when our flight was cancelled. The drive to Las Vegas is really not that bad seeing as how California and Nevada are neighbors, but when you combine normal LA traffic with a holiday, things are about to get messy. Regardless, I came back with a few items that made the trip well worth the drive.
The beginning of every trip starts with me saying goodbye to this little face, which is one of the hardest things to do.
My view for too many hours…desert…and more desert.
Finally the Las Vegas view we all love. My view from the Encore Hotel, one of my favorites.
And my favorite part of Las Vegas, hands down…the shopping! I stared at these Charlotte Olympia shoes for longer than necessary.
While I couldn’t bring those beautiful shoes home, I did pick up some classic nude YSL Tributes.
Now for the trip home…
Finally some ocean.
And a little Memorial Day pool time to finish off the weekend.
Today was a reminder of why I love living in California. Sunny. 80 degrees. And more convertibles on the road than I have seen in a long time. I finally had a reason to put away my dark denim for a light pair that I picked up in Spain last summer. I’ve discovered that I’m a big fan of taking pictures about an hour or two before sunset when it’s a little bit cooler outside (and of course this may also be a procrastination technique for school-related reading). However, sunset photos mean that I get to battle the wind since I live on the top of a hill. Thanks to the combination of the wind and the bat-wing sleeves of this Velvet top, I may look like I’m about to take flight in a few of these pictures. But rest assured, I was inside shortly after, trying to find another way to avoid reading French literature for class tomorrow.
I’m wearing a pair of mystery jeans that I picked up in Spain last year, a Velvet top, Sam Edelman wedges, a vintage Rolex, and Burberry sunglasses.
I am very blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends. However, I seem to attract girlfriends with one small problem; they love to move or travel to exotic places for months at a time, if not indefinitely. I’m a little tired of my girls deciding to travel the world while I am stuck in a classroom, but at least they are sweet enough to send me pictures of their adventures. These pictures are from one of my dearest friends, who happens to be exploring Guatemala. She confided in me that she had to invest in some Tevas (remember those ugly velcro sandals that your parents made you wear when you were a kid?) because they really are necessary while hiking in hot and humid environments. Out of my love for her, I will not include any of those photos, but I will keep them for my personal collection. Needless to say, although I live in beautiful California, I really can’t wait for my vacation over the summer (minus the Tevas).
After being fortunate enough to spend last summer in Spain studying my beloved Spanish, I will spend the month of September visiting some other European countries that I did not have time to visit on my last Euro trip. This gives me more motivation to study french during my last weeks as a college student since France will be the second stop on our trip. As I was procrastinating reading my French literature book, I began to notice that I was surrounded by French inspiration. Since I’m pretty sure that last Summer I left part of my heart in Spain, it won’t be surprising if I leave another piece in France.
Beautiful heels from the French designer Charles Jourdan. I got them on sale which makes me love them more!
I have a weakness for silk shirts, especially this pastel one from the French designer Equipment and this red one from Haute Hippie.
Antique perfume bottle and vintage inspired “Paris” box.
French movies for my french film class, I never knew that The Birdcage (La Cage Aux Folles) was originally a French film, but I was so excited when I found out!
Ok so what does this AG denim jacket and print scarf have to do with France? Nothing. But this has become my go-to combo lately, and will most likely accompany me to France…Italy…London…
